Justin McDermott

What are the advantages of working at Jigsaw?

Young people are ever-changing, dynamic, caring, challenging, and energetic. For me, these characteristics are reflected in who we are as an organisation. I love the energy, dynamism, and genuine desire by everyone who works in Jigsaw, to do what we can to support young people right across Ireland.

We’re always looking for ways to improve, to meet the ever-changing needs of our young people, their families, and their communities.

I genuinely feel there is so much we have yet to do and achieve for and with young people, and I love being part of that.

Matthew Oakes Communications and Brand Lead

It’s hard to describe a typical day in the communications and fundraising team in Jigsaw. It can be pretty varied and certainly never boring.

Matthew Oakes
Brand and Communications Lead

My experience before coming to Jigsaw

I joined Jigsaw in July 2015, having previously worked for Macmillan Cancer Support and The Scout Association in the UK. At Macmillan I spent five years as part of the digital team responsible for content and working on various projects.

At The Scout Association UK for seven years I edited their national membership magazine, produced content for their website, programme materials for young people, represented the UK at conferences for the World Organization of the Scout Movement, and was part of the organising team for the 2007 World Scout Jamboree.

A typical day on the Communications and Fundraising team

It’s hard to describe a typical day. My time can be spent writing briefing notes for government ministers, working with senior management to produce our (award-winning, ahem!) annual reports, delivering workshops throughout the organisation on our brand guidelines, designing youth mental health promotional materials and the list goes on.

It can be pretty varied and it’s certainly never boring.

I am incredibly lucky to lead a team of amazingly dedicated and professional people. I learn from them every day.

Mike Mansfield
Director of Communications and Fundraising

A typical day for me is ...

A lot of my day is filled with supporting the work of both teams that I sit on; Communications and Fundraising and the Senior Management Team. This brings a variety to the role.

I love, when I can, to meet or speak with our donors. They are the lifeblood of our organisation and the passion and interest that resonates in these conversations is really inspiring.

Certainly, no days are the same. It’s the variety of conversations, ideas, and people that makes my role so enjoyable.

We are hiring!

My experience before coming to Jigsaw

I have been working in the overseas NGO sector prior to joining Jigsaw for many years and increasingly, this involved a good deal of international travel. So at that time, a search nearer to home led me to Jigsaw.

What keeps me coming to work

The cause. The vision. The stories from those we support. The successes. The wins. The donors who give. My team and their energy and professionalism and drive.

I am incredibly lucky to lead a team of amazingly dedicated and professional people. I learn from them every day. The energy and enthusiasm and drive for the better is hugely inspiring.
