Understanding barriers to mental health care
Understanding barriers to mental health care
Accessing mental health support isn’t always straightforward. For some people, a range of personal, social and systemic barriers can make it difficult to find and access the right support.
Jigsaw researchers have contributed to a landmark European research project exploring these barriers and what can be done to make mental health care more accessible, equitable and inclusive.
The research brings together evidence and perspectives from across Europe to better understand the experiences of people who may face additional challenges when accessing mental health and care services. It explores the complex factors that can influence whether someone is able to access timely and appropriate support.
Understanding these barriers is an important step towards creating services that work for everyone. The findings provide valuable evidence that can help inform how mental health services are designed and delivered, particularly for people who may be more likely to experience difficulties accessing care.
Jigsaw’s contribution
The research also reflects Jigsaw’s growing contribution to international research and policy discussions around mental health. By sharing our expertise and learning, we can help build a stronger understanding of what young people and communities need from mental health services.
Research such as this is an important part of Jigsaw’s work. Alongside providing direct mental health support to young people, we are committed to building evidence, sharing learning and advocating for changes that can improve mental health and wellbeing.
The findings from this European project add to the growing body of evidence showing the importance of tackling barriers to mental health care and ensuring that support is accessible to those who need it.
