Hi Lc220,
You are not alone in feeling anxious or worried about exams. The leaving cert year can be a really difficult one for many different reasons. The exams themselves are difficult, along with thoughts about the future. You can find out more about some strategies and ways to cope with Leaving Cert stress here.
Also, you mentioned that you have scratched yourself. Scratching can be a form of self-harm, and a response to challenging or stressful situations. In Jigsaw we believe that it is important to take all self-harm seriously and you can read about some strategies to help in dealing with self-harm here.
It is great that you reached out to your local Jigsaw Service for support. However, unfortunately, there is sometimes a wait for appointments. This depends on the service and the time of year. If you feel unable to wait for an appointment, here are some options for more immediate support.
Let someone know
You may already have done so, but I would strongly encourage you to talk to a parent and/ or teacher about how you are feeling in relation to exams. Let them know that you have been scratching yourself. If you can, explain why if it is a way to help you manage overwhelming feelings. Perhaps read some of the above information with them and get their support to help you find ways to get through this challenging time.
Good luck with the leaving cert and take care,
Paul, Jigsaw Clinician
