Budget 2027: Jigsaw welcomes vital funding
Jigsaw welcomes today’s announcement of new funding for youth mental health services as a vital step towards nationwide support for young people.
Jigsaw, the National Centre for Youth Mental Health, has today warmly welcomed the Government’s announcement of new investment to expand youth mental health services across Ireland in Budget 2027.
As announced this morning by Minister with responsibility for Mental Health, Mary Butler TD, Jigsaw has been allocated an additional €3.8 million in annual, recurring funding to support the development of new Jigsaw services in counties Sligo / Leitrim, Cavan / Monaghan, Kildare and Dun Laoghaire / Rathdown.
The additional investment represents an important commitment to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of young people across Ireland and will help Jigsaw continue to develop accessible, early-intervention services for young people and their families.
Jigsaw CEO Dr. Joseph Duffy said:
“We warmly welcome this additional €3.8 million investment in youth mental health. It is a significant recognition of the importance of providing young people with timely, accessible support and of investing in early intervention.
We are particularly grateful to Minister Mary Butler TD for her continued commitment to youth mental health and for recognising the vital role that services like Jigsaw play in supporting young people across Ireland.
This investment will help us build on the work we are already doing across Ireland and ensure more young people can access the support they need. We know from experience that early, local, and accessible mental health support can change the trajectory of a young person’s life. Every young person, no matter where they live, deserves that opportunity. We look forward to working with Government, the HSE and our partners to translate this investment into meaningful outcomes for young people and communities.”
Jigsaw currently operates 16 services nationwide, supporting young people aged 12 to 25 who are experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties. The organisation has long advocated for a national network of youth mental health supports that make early help available to every young person in Ireland. Today’s announcement will see availability of Jigsaw’s in-person youth mental health services exceed 87% of Ireland’s youth population.
