Jigsaw schools hub is live

Results of our recent survey revealed that less than half  (45.5%) of the staff in Ireland’s schools felt confident about responding to a young person with mental health difficulties.

The survey also showed over a quarter (25.5 %) reported providing regular ongoing support to a student experiencing mental health difficulties.

Exploring mental health and wellbeing

This week we launched the Jigsaw Schools Hub. This new online development offers schools across Ireland the latest tools and information to help them support young people’s mental health and wellbeing.

The impact of the pandemic has been challenging for schools. Many young people and school staff themselves will be experiencing feelings of anxiety, stress and loss. The resources aim to provide support as they begin the transition back to their school premises, while managing the current level of restrictions and living with the ongoing uncertainties.

We understand the demands faced by school staff. We want to ensure they have access to the support and resources so they need to feel confident exploring mental health and wellbeing with young people.

Having the Jigsaw Schools Hub is an invaluable support to all members of our school community. Supporting young people's mental health and wellbeing is all about providing staff, young people and parents with accessible support and resources.

Delivering a mental health and wellbeing programme

Research shows that there is a demand amongst teachers for quality online resources to help them support the mental health and wellbeing of their students. Yet, teachers often feel they do not have the resources they need.

At the Jigsaw Schools Hub, school staff will find a growing range of resources created in collaboration with young people, school staff, and parents. The resources contribute to delivering a mental health and wellbeing programme as part of the school curriculum. Resources have been tailored to support school staff and students through the unique challenges of the pandemic.

From the previous support Jigsaw have given us in Mulroy College, Donegal, we are very aware of the practical resources, the information and accessible toolkits they provide. They are both user friendly and impactful.

The Jigsaw Schools Hub is supported by Rethink Ireland through the Innovate Together Fund, a collaboration between Rethink Ireland and the Department of Rural and Community Development (via the Dormant Accounts Fund).
