What should I do if I no longer have any reason to live and the only reason I am still here is for my family’s sake?
Jay
Hi Jay,
I’m sorry to hear that you can’t find many reasons to live. In darker times, it can be difficult to find any reason to live. When we are suffering with great pain, surviving each day can be a tremendous effort. Unfortunately, there are many people who struggle with feelings like yours. Remember that you are not alone. Pieta House offers free counselling, both in person and online, to those who are dealing with thoughts of wanting to die. Their helpline is available 24/7 on 1800247247 or text HELP to 51444.
Asking for help
Having thoughts like this can take us to a very dark and lonely place. The most important thing that you can do now is to get support. You mention that your family provide you with a reason for you to keep going. This is really important to acknowledge, and to use to as a support going forward. Asking for help takes a lot of courage but it is the first step towards feeling connected to life again. Here are some ways to start a conversation with a loved one about support.
You may have been having these thoughts for some time, and your feelings might feel very permanent. However, feelings do change and this time in your life is temporary. Seeking the right support from the right person will help you to move forward and to create a life that you enjoy.
Take care,
