Innovate for Wellbeing

Innovate for Wellbeing

Welcome to Innovate for Wellbeing. This is a Jigsaw and Young Social Innovators collaboration for Jigsaw’s One Good School initiative.

This programme has been developed by Jigsaw and Young Social Innovators (YSI) as part of Jigsaw’s One Good School initiative. It combines the YSI social innovation learning framework with Jigsaw’s approach to youth mental health, early intervention and prevention.

The aims of the programme are to provide:

  1. A way for students to feel their views are valued and represented in their school community
  2. A meaningful way for students to participate in the area of mental health and wellbeing in their school.

This is an exciting opportunity for young people to play a role in their school’s approach to youth mental health and wellbeing. They can also develop new skills while having their voice heard.

As your school lead for Innovate for Wellbeing, you will have access to an introductory online training module and resources. These should give you everything you need to facilitate the programme.

What do I do now?

Step 1- Identify a group of students who would like to participate in the programme. This programme can be rolled out to any year group. We recommend a teacher to young person ratio of 1:15

Step 2- Complete the short online training module. This will explain the key concepts of mental health and wellbeing. It will also provide practical information for delivering the programme. The course is short but must be taken in one sitting.

Step 3- Log into the Young Social Innovators ‘Innovate for Wellbeing’ programme to access resources and lesson plans. Your password will be given to you upon completion of the online training module.

Step 4- Link in with your Jigsaw YCEW to arrange the delivery of the Innovate for Wellbeing Kickstarter workshop. This can occur face to face, in line with public health restrictions. If a face to face workshop is not viable, we can offer a webinar session led by your Jigsaw YCEW to you and your Innovate for Wellbeing students. In preparation for this webinar, we ask that your students visit this Kickstarter page and complete this worksheet. Your students should bring their completed worksheet to the webinar session. Please liaise directly with your Jigsaw YCEW to arrange the Kickstarter workshop.

It is important that young people complete this stage, for the following reasons:

  • It will set the context for mental health and wellbeing at the start of the programme
  • It will give young people a chance to meet their local Jigsaw YCEW and ask any questions that they may have

Visit the Kickstarter page to learn more.

Step 5- As you near the end of your project and before your group completes their project report, link in with your Jigsaw YCEW to arrange a Reflection workshop. This can occur face to face, in line with public health restrictions. If a face to face workshop is not viable, we can offer a webinar session led by your Jigsaw YCEW to you and your Innovate for Wellbeing students.

In preparation for this webinar, we ask that your students visit this Reflection page and complete the 5-a-day reflection worksheet and Tell your story worksheet.  Your students should bring their completed worksheet to the webinar session. Please liaise directly with your Jigsaw YCEW to arrange the Reflection workshop.

It is important that young people complete this stage, for the following reasons:

  • It will support young people to think about how taking part in the programme supported them to get their 5-a-day for mental health and how it supported the voice of young people in their school
  • It will give young people a chance to ask any final questions they have before they complete and submit their project report. They will also be asked to complete the programme evaluation at the session.
